Let’s see a simple LAN(Local Area Network) works in which
way. Let’s see this virtually. We use a network simulator which name is Cisco
Packet Tracer. Cisco Packet Tracer is a powerful network simulation tool and
you can do almost all networking simulation works in it. It has all the
networking elements which is required to set up a network. You can found the
download link of version 5.3.3 and 6.0.1 in this blog. Here I can mention that
version 5.3.3 supports ip v 4 only and version 6.0.1 supports both ip v 4 and
ip v 6.
Now let’s start a simple LAN connection. We’ll use this LAN
connection.
First open Cisco Packet Tracer. Then draw the network in the
way I have done. There are two switches. Use cross-over connection for switch
to switch connection. And use straight through connection for switch and pc.
So we have set up our desired network. Now we have to give
ip address to each pc. As switch has no functional port we need not give any ip
address to switch. Let’s start with computer 1. Click the computer 1. You can
see this type of picture.
Click on ip configuration. Here you can see the three place
to give ip address, subnet mask and default gate way. Please be careful the
information that in same network there is ip address and default gate way are
same.
Let us our network address is 172.16.33.64/26
So for the each pc we’ll use the ip address as 172.16.33.65,
172.16.33.66, 172.16.33.67, 172.16.33.67
As it is a same network so subnet mask and default gate way
be same for each pc. So let’s enjoy that.
After having successful ip implementation, let’s use message
to examine if we have establish our network clearly or not. On the right sight
of packet tracer you can see a close envelop, click there. You can see a close
envelop in your mouse courser. Now with this message sign click the computer 4
then computer 3.
There is a status bar in the right low side. If the packet
sent was successful then you can get the successful message as shown in the
picture.
If you want to know how this work are doing in the network,
then press shift+s. A new window will open, then click auto capture/play
button.
That’s all for today. Enjoy
